Follow this timeline and you will never feel rushed. Each step keeps you ahead of the move.
Get quotes from 2–3 movers, compare itemised pricing, and book your slot. Booking early locks in better rates and your preferred date.
Sell, donate or discard what you no longer need. Less to move means a smaller truck, lower cost and a cleaner start.
Transfer school records, update address with banks and utilities, and schedule disconnections at your old home.
Pack off-season clothes, books, decor and items you will not need before the move. Label every box by room and contents.
Confirm your moving date and time with the crew. Pack an essentials box with clothes, toiletries, chargers and documents for the first 48 hours.
Do a final walkthrough with the crew lead, sign the inventory list, and keep valuables and documents with you personally.
Packing tips
Pack one room at a time and label each box with its destination room. It makes loading, unloading and unpacking far faster.
Use bubble wrap and corrugated dividers for glass and ceramics. Place heavier items at the bottom and fill gaps with packing paper to prevent shifting.
Heavy items like books go in small boxes; light bulky items like pillows go in large ones. Never overload a box past 20 kg.
Bag screws, bolts and brackets from dismantled furniture and tape them to the piece they belong to. You will thank yourself at reassembly.
Tape the bottom and top of every box in an H-pattern. Reinforce boxes holding heavy or fragile items with an extra layer.
Snap a photo of the back of your TV, modem and entertainment setup before unplugging. It makes reconnecting everything effortless.
Moving day
Moving day is when good preparation pays off. These essentials keep everything on track from the first box loaded to the last one placed.
Always keep valuables, jewellery and important documents with you personally — never in the moving truck.
After the move
Set up the bedroom and bathroom first so you can rest and refresh. Then tackle the kitchen and living areas over the following days.
Inspect your belongings against the inventory list as you unpack. Report any damage to your mover within the claim window — usually 7 days.
Notify banks, insurers, subscriptions and government IDs of your new address. Redirect mail through the post office for the first few months.
Explore the new neighbourhood together, find local doctors and schools, and let kids help arrange their own rooms to feel at home faster.
